Although CUHK’s Filipino community is not that large
(with only about 10-15 of us out of 30,000 students in the University), we have
an ever-growing and thriving South-East Asian community that is very warm and
welcoming in general!

Personally, I am currently a Year 2 student, and
despite not having much Filipinos around on campus (though I do meet up with
them when I can!), I have been able to thrive as an international student here
in general, meeting people from over 40 countries so far, sharing my own Pinoy
culture and language, and having fun along the
way!

Awards and
Certificates (Academic / Professional Achievements)
You may provide a maximum of 10 awards or certificates that prove your academic or professional achievements. Such academic awards include but are not limited to any international-level competition (Olympiad Exams) or inter-school level competition (English Speech Contests or Basketball Tournaments). Such professional certificates include but are not limited to CFA or FRM.
You can submit up to 3 referee's contact information. The referee may be your high school teacher, a professor, or an employer with related academic background who can prove your academic strengths or professional skills.
After successfully submitting online application, your referee will receive an invitation email to login the "Online Confidential Recommendation System" to complete the Confidential Recommendation Report. He or she can also attach a Reference Letter as a supplement. Your referee could submit it online through the Online Confidential Recommendation System or print out the Confidential Recommendation Form and Reference Letter (if applicable) and mail them in a sealed envelope by post to the Office of Admissions and Financial Aid:
Office of Admissions and
Financial Aid, The Chinese University of Hong Kong
Address: Room 1202, Yasumoto International Academic Park, The Chinese
University of Hong Kong, Shatin, Hong Kong.
Again, since the Philippine curriculum is not accredited internationally, you must take any of the abovementioned external exams in order for your application to be eligible and put under consideration at CUHK Economics. If you have not received your exam results when you apply, simply leave the exam score section blank and label that it is still to be taken/ on its way, and upload the real result/s when you receive it/ them. In the case that you have special cases or are concerned about your application/ situation with regards to this, do inform the CUHK Office of Admissions and Financial Aid here and let them know your concern, with your Application Number stipulated in your enquiry.
Please click here for the requirements of CUHK. Personally, I took SATs, and I would suggest aiming for at least a 1250/1600 in the Reasoning Test and 630s in your 2 or 3 SAT Subject Tests.
Moreover, you’re also going to see in the link that the Philippines is the only country without an internationally accredited high school curriculum. Sorry to say, but to the local school student applying overseas, the K12 curriculum is a local curriculum that goes in line only with Philippines tertiary education/ universities.
English proficiency is also a requirement in your application. Generally, you will need scores in any of the following tests as well: IELTS - 6.0 overall band score / TOEFL (iBT) - 80 / SAT Evidence-Based Reading and Writing - 590 / SAT Reasoning Test (Old) – 8 overall in the Essay.
Please click here for English Language Tests accepted by CUHK.
It is a non-refundable payment that is payable via either through VISA or MASTERCARD when submitting your online application.
Sign and complete duplicate copy of the admission offer letter by the specified date; otherwise the admission offer will become null and void.
Remember to upload the Certificates to confirm the conditional offer (if applicable).
Pay the first installment of composition fees of HK$10,000 by the specified date; otherwise the admission offer will become null and void. This HK$10,000 will be counted as part of the tuition fee in the first semester.
Applicants who are admitted to CUHK will be affiliated to one of the nine colleges. To facilitate the college assignment process, you will receive an email at around April or May that will ask you to submit your ranked college preferences.
